EUROPEAN DESIGN 2010, TOKYO
(25th Oct-1st Nov 2010)

We are excited to have been selected to exhibit in Tokyo later this month as part of the EU Interior Design Mission to Japan. We will be showing a collection of pieces from our various areas of inspiration, including Lichen tables and lamps (Woodland), Straw cubes (Agricultural), Falling Rosebuds Lamp (Floral) and a selection of Family Silver blocks (Found Objects/sculptural). There is a strong history of fabulous craft, design and architecture, and I for one have been very influenced by the Japanese approach and aesthetic over the years. With their love of clean lines, nature and the quirky, it will be interesting to see what they make of our irish design too... There will be a cocktail evening on wednesday 27th from 6.30pm for anyone who would like to come along and see! http://www.europeandesign.jp/catalog/index.html

IMAGINED/RE-IMAGINED at THE MALTHOUSE, DUBLIN DESIGN WEEK
(2nd-7th Nov 2010)

We are also exhibiting some new work and recent experiments during design week as part of the group exhibition of Irish Design at the Duff Tisdall showrooms (The Malthouse, Distillery Court, 537 North Circular Road, Dublin 1). Blondie's Eat to the Beat has been at the heart of a recent re-interpretation of the dining-table-for-one, and some new members of The Family Silver will be making their Dublin debut. There will be a launch by renowned Irish architect, Dermot Bannon on Tuesday 2nd November at 6pm - come and enjoy drinks, nibbles & beautiful design! The show will run daily until Sunday 7th November 11am- 7pm.

IMAGINED showcases a selection of pieces hand picked from Ireland's leading artists and designers as well as carefully selected works from new emerging talents. Each of the selected pieces has been designed and made locally by skilled craftsmen and represent the very best in Irish design today.

RE-IMAGINED highlights the innovation and creativity found right here on our doorstep as some of our most well known designers respond to a brief to create more from less.
Through innovation and creativity they will be breathing new life into salvaged materials while turning them into aspirational products. This exhibition demonstrates how post-consumer waste can be re-imagined as sculptural, functional objects.

Please follow farm21 on facebook for regular updates and postings from Tokyo, the Re-Imagined show, and from the studio in Carlow where we have been working on a variety of challenging and exciting new projects.

¡®farm21 is simply about re-presenting the greatest artwork of all ¨C nature¡¯

farm21 was formed in 2001 to design and make art, furniture and lighting from a contemporary rural standpoint. We aim to inspire people across the globe with our beautiful pieces that incorporate the natural world, urban forms and a touch of humour. Everything is made-to-order, allowing each piece to be tailored to request.

Our signature farm21 item is the straw-packed plexiglas cube, originally created as a present for my father¡¯s 60th birthday. This concept has been developed into a range of cubes packed with organic materials which function as stools, benches and tables. Recent developments with a new laminating process allows us to suspend our organic materials within resins and acrylic, to create a solid cast material which we use for everything from chairs and chests to screens and bedheads, and beautiful lamps and lighting. We also work closely with The Lisnavagh Timber Project using local, traceable and sustainable Irish hardwoods for furniture.

To this day, the bulk of farm21 organic materials are sourced from the family farm and gardens at Lisnavagh ¨C straws, leaves, twigs, timber, mosses, lichens, and flowers.

¡®farm21 concentrates on re-presenting nature through modern materials and technology, as functional forms. Via acrylics and resins, delicate & transient organic materials are ¡®frozen¡¯ between life and decay, and through obsessive scale and concentration they highlight the process of nature in our increasingly urban world.¡¯

farm21's unique take on the natural world has received extensive recognition worldwide and has been featured in prestigious publications from The New York Times and London Telegraph to Vogue and Wallpaper.

We have also provided installations for corporate headquarters such as the Bank of America in Dublin, and top hotels such as Carton House and the Cliff House, as well as homes the world over. The Carlow Chair was purchased for The National Museum of Ireland¡¯s permanent collection in 2008, and a Screen has been commissioned for 2009.

Thank you for your interest in farm21 and for visiting the website, and please do contact us if you have any questions or comments.
