COLLABORATIVE
WORK
Redesign of The Bar at The Herbert Park Hotel,
Dublin 4
Another collaboration with artist Paul Monaghan under the guidance
of Interior Designer Peter Johnson and Geraldine Kennedy of the
hotel. The Bar is split into Bar/Lounge areas, with concentration
on use of materials referring to our Irish heritage. Linear spalted
beech tables, large concrete round tables, wool and silk wall panels,
and a diffused light 'woodland' window are all given a timeless
feel by the soft grey and green base colours all around. The chairs
dip into the fanciful, with Pierre Paulin 'Orange Slice' chairs
in strong turquoises, and the 'scoop' sleek bar stools in bright
pinks, highlighted by the end wall feature: a recess with endless
copper vases filled with fuschia roses. The Bar itself is a darker
experience, with a super long black concrete bar and a dark concrete
tiled floor experienced only subconsciously in the minimal light.
In traditional style, the snugs are hidden between the two main
areas, and have extra-high upholstered seats, waxed beech tables
and salt-rock crystal lamps for cosiness.
