farm21

Irish designer Sasha Sykes formed design company farm21 in 2001 to create contemporary rural furniture and art. Following the company's success in the UK, Sasha has recently moved her base to New York where she is now running operations from her mid-town studio.

The signature farm21 item is the straw-packed plexiglas cube, originally created as a birthday present for Sasha's father's 65th birthday. This concept has been developed into a range of cubes packed with organic materials, such as lavender and moss, which function as stools, benches and tables, stylish lamps and wall panels. The latest farm21 range of products incorporate a new laminating process which allow our organic materials to be suspended within the acrylic, creating eye-catching tables, lamps and screens. To this day, the bulk of farm21 organic material (straw, wood and lichen, for example) is sourced from Sasha's family farm in County Carlow, Ireland.

All farm21 designs, including our range of bespoke timber benches with engraved song lyrics or embedded gemstones, and our stunning window shades, digitally printed with scenes by top Irish photographers, can be seen on our extensive website www.farm21.co.uk

The current range is all made-to-order, allowing each piece to be tailored to request, and our pieces are available directly through our website, or via Desiron (151 Wooster St, NY) and Jarlathdan (303 Main St, Amagansett, NY).

farm21's unique take on the natural world has received extensive recognition in London, and has been featured in prestigious publications such as British Vogue, British GQ, IDFX (cover), Living etc (cover), London Telegraph Magazine and London Sunday Times. We have also provided installations for corporate headquarters such as the Bank of America in Dublin, as well as bringing farm21 aesthetic to bars, hotels and other offices in London and Ireland. We are currently working on a storefront project for society jeweller Cassandra Goad on London's Sloane Street.

Sasha says: "The rural world is changing incredibly fast and we often overlook the state that things have got to. Farming is an ancient and well developed craft that is as interesting for its aesthestic as its produce. What I am trying to do with farm21 is to highlight all these aspects, and bring some rural aesthetic back into our predominantly urban lives. farm21 is simply about re-presenting the greatest artwork of all - nature."
